About the Penhurst Group
Geographically, our focus has largely been on areas within a five mile radius of Lavender Hill and south of the Thames. These areas, which include Wimbledon, Clapham, Battersea, Wandsworth and (to the north of the river) Fulham, are well known to John and his fellow directors, whose first-hand experience of the typical properties to be found in them, have given us a strong competitive advantage in respect of acquisitions and management. In addition, we have avoided large, speculative or fashionable purchases.
The combination of these factors has enabled us to secure consistent and sustained income and capital growth since 1987. In recent years we have diversified with our venture into the commercial arena and have done so with an equal degree of success. This diversification has embraced the progressive acquisitions of twenty shops, various development sites, 3 former bank buildings and the Riverside Business Centre in Tonbridge, Kent, which has been offering serviced offices since 1996. Riverside Business Centre and Penhurst House, represent a particular diversification which we intend to pursue with further acquisitions in the future.
In addition, given the demand we have experienced for the serviced office accommodation in our Riverside Business Centre since it opened its doors in 1996, we plan to acquire further property for use as high quality business centres in Kent. Our initial aim is to establish such facilities in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks.
We are confident that the considerable achievements and financial successes of the first 20 years of the group’s operation will be more than matched by our performance in the years to come. It is our track record which gives us that confidence.
The Penhurst Group was founded by John Elkington with the aim of investing in quality property located in specifically targeted areas of London. Since then it has become a substantial operation with assets exceeding
£60 million.
From the outset our philosophy has been to build a portfolio of mostly residential properties suitable for letting to highly mobile, young professional people. The properties identified for acquisition were those with a price and size which would appeal to the specific needs of those people.
